Matt Forker is a guitarist, composer-improvisor, teacher and recording engineer based in Brooklyn, New York. Embodying the steadfastly individual ethos of the city, Matt has continually blazed his own trail, tenaciously chasing a unique and focused vision. Drawing on the legacy of the AACM, as well as from chamber music of the 20th and 21st centuries, Matt’s intricately polyphonic sound foregrounds his clear compositional vision and adventurous improvisational language. This May, Matt received the Gwen Livingston Pokora Prize for Composition from Wesleyan University, and was selected to attend the Banff Centre’s International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music.
Matt received the majority of his music education from LaGuardia High School and Wesleyan University, and has had the opportunity to work with and study under Tyshawn Sorey, Vijay Iyer, Amir ElSaffar, Okkyung Lee, Tony Lombardozzi, Noah Baerman, and Richard Titone.
